The team left Slidell at 6am. All has gone well today. We will be having dinner around 6pm at Englewood UMC in Englewood, TN. We will then proceed to Pleasant View UMC in Abingdon VA to spend the night. It was a great week! We're looking forward to reuniting with family and friends tomorrow afternoon. Thanks for all your prayers and support--we'll be anxious to share our stories of the week!

We would like to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers. We will be home Sunday evening . We left all of our homeowners with "Hope" that their lives will soon return to normal.

We had a wonderful service to finish our week here in Slidell. We had Communion and revealed our "prayer buddies".

At this house, we had to hang drywall , mud and install two doors.

At this site we had to paint and do electrical work. We installed more than 30 fixtures.

At this house we had to do drywall and mudding.

This is one of the houses we worked on. We gutted the entire inside of this house.

Here are a couple of our brothers and sisters whom we are blessed to serve.

We also made a trip into New Orleans. We visited the French Quarter. We even stopped at Cafe Du Monde.

After four and a half years there is still work to be done in the Greater New Orleans area. You will notice that Six Flags at New Orleans is not rebuilt.

Knee deep in drywall dust and loving it! Also, very important to concentrate with a sharp knife in the hand.!

We have also found inspirations from God during our workdays.

The many jobs we are doing include hanging drywall, painting, insulating and also a demolition.
We are currently working on six different projects right now around the Slidell area.

Just getting started at Ms. Peggy's house, working on insulating the ceiling so it can be drywalled. As you can see we still have a lot of work to do, but we are excited! There is a group of approximately ten volunteers on this job site.
Work that still needs addressed, almost five years after Katrina.

I talked to the folks in Slidell today. It appears they have 6 homes lined up for us to work on. In one home the team must empty the contents of the house into storage units (PODS), we will then gut the entire home in preparation for rebuild. Job 2 will consist of hanging and mudding out drywall. Job 3 will entail installing trim, building a countertop, trim painting, and finish plumbing. Job 4 is ceramic floor and countertop installation. Job 5 is a bit "scratchy" (all pun intended) as the team will install insulation and drywall in an entire home. Job 6 will be finish work for electrical, installation of receptacles and fixtures.
This is the plan --- However, God is in charge and all of this is subject to change!
Snow? Who said something about snow? We'll need to keep an eye for that ole groundhog in our travels!
Peace to all of you,
Pray for the team.

Final preparations

Greetings Dear Friends,
The York District UMC mission trip to Slidell, LA is in the final stages of preparation. Wow, the weather looks great! Sunny with temps in the mid 50's to possibly 60! -- in Slidell that is. We have 43 volunteers representing 10 different churches participating in this outreach project! I am continually amazed at the "talents" God brings together to be "His hands and feet" as we show the love of Jesus Christ in the community.
Thanks for being on board with us and stop back here often for (hopefully) daily updates and pictures of the team as they serve. Even from home you are a vital part of this mission, please be in prayer for the team as we travel and serve our Brothers & Sisters in Slidell and all along the journey.
In His service,
The Slidell Team
